Gingoog's first smart rural farm school unveiled

GINGOOG CITY, Misamis Oriental (PIA) -- The Kalipay National High School (NHS) here transitioned into and was officially launched as a Smart Rural Farm School on April 16, 2024.

This is under Republic Act No. 10618, also known as the Rural Farm Schools Act, which establishes a rural farm school alternative delivery mode of secondary education, focusing on agri-fisheries, to cater to the educational needs of children in rural, agricultural, and fishing communities.

The conversion of Kalipay NHS marks the first implementation of the Smart Farm School Conversion Program by the Gingoog City Government, meeting the qualifications for curriculum conversion. The school will now offer curricula such as food processing, aquaculture, landscaping, and agri-crop production as part of its alternative delivery mode of secondary education.

During the launching ceremony, attendees were introduced to the new curriculum guide, highlighting the integration of farming into the academic curriculum.

Additionally, the Kalipay Smart Farm School Site Development was unveiled, accompanied by a ceremonial signing of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the school and other relevant agencies.

With the establishment of the farm school, the city government of Gingoog anticipates increased attention towards the agriculture sector, fostering its growth and providing enhanced opportunities for youth and communities in smart farming and agricultural development. (JAKA/PIA-10)
