More than 900 senior citizens in Abra town receive increased social pension

SAN JUAN, Abra (PIA) – A total of 952 indigent senior citizens in the municipality of San Juan, Abra received their increased social pension for the first semester this year during the recent payout at the San Juan Municipal Gymnasium.

Social Wefare and Development Office-Abra Social Pension Focal Eden Vasquez said that the amount of P5,712,000 was allocated for the social pension of senior citizens beneficiaries in San Juan.
 
“Dadiayay pension da tatta ket nag-increase from P500 nagbalin nga P1,000. Daytoy ket pangnayon dagidiay  senior citizens ti pang-medical da, panggatang da ti daily needs da,” she shared.
 
Vasquez also clarified that the social pension is for indigent senior citizens who do not have pensions, not employed as government officials, or those who do not have regular support from their families.
 
Bing Isao, who received the cash assistance for her 75 year-old father, is thankful for the aid that will help them buy maintenance medicines  and other basic needs.

“Daytoy ket para ti maintenance ni Tatang ti sakit ti puso na ken high blood. Dakkel met ti naitulong daytoy ti panggatang ti agas na ken daydiay gatas na,” she said.


The payout for social pension provincewide is almost over with around 19 out of the 27 municipalities covered by social pension payout teams of the DSWD.
 
The Social Pension For Indigent Senior Citizens is a program of the DSWD that aims to provide financial aid to indigent senior citiznes to augment their medical and daily needs. This is an additional government assistance mandated under the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010.

The pay out for this assistance is scheduled by semester  covering the different regions in the country.(JDP/JJPM-PIA CAR)
