CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) -- The Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro has undertaken a significant outreach to support Indigenous communities. A total of 1,555 Indigenous students across 17 IP schools in the province have received school bags equipped with essential school supplies.

This effort is aimed at alleviating educational barriers faced by students from these communities, targeting schools that cater exclusively to the indigenous population, ensuring that the benefits were received directly by those in need.

Lanie D. Adora, a 35-year-old member of the Alangan Tribe and a resident of Brgy. Bangkatan, Baco, expressed profound gratitude towards this initiative.

As a mother of three children who are beneficiaries of this program, Adora highlighted the significant impact of this aid.

"This support from the government is a blessing for us. I work hard every day, but it's still a struggle to provide for my children's educational needs," she shared.

Adora's story resonates with many in her community, where many families face financial challenges that impede their children’s education.

The provision of school supplies relieves some of their burden, allowing them to allocate their limited resources to other essential needs. This initiative is part of a broader strategy by the Provincial Government to enhance access to education for underprivileged and marginalized communities. It underscores the government's commitment to inclusive education policies that ensure no child is left behind because of their socio-economic background.

Officials at the event reiterated their dedication to continuing support for indigenous education, aiming to bridge the gap and foster an environment where every child can achieve their potential irrespective of their origin. (JJGS/PIA MIMAROPA - Oriental Mindoro)
