Davao City to build ‘cultural peace hub’ in Kadayawan Village

DAVAO CITY (PIA) -- The City Government of Davao is looking to construct new facilities at Kadayawan Village as the city bagged second place (Mindanao) in the Tourism Champions Challenge (TCC).

The city will receive P20 million from the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority to implement its proposed project titled “Panunod: A Way of Life, Inherited Preservation of the Unwavering Legacy of Cultural and Sustainable Tourism of Davao City.”

The city was among the 15 local government units that received cash grants with an additional P5 million from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to implement their tourism projects that aim to create new tourism opportunities, create accessibility, and showcase unique Filipino heritage.

The Panunod project involves the creation of a cultural peace hub for the Indigenous and Bangsamoro communities inside Magsaysay Park. It will establish a centralized cultural center and sustainable communities dedicated to showcasing economic opportunities for the arts and products of the city’s 11 ethnolinguistic tribes.

City Tourism Operations Office OIC Jennifer Ricardo Romero says they are planning to enhance the Kadayawan village inside Magsaysay Park, where the replica houses of the city’s 11 ethnolinguistic groups were built.

“Our project will be focusing on the Kadayawan Village, enhancing the village where we will put infrastructure to help boost the Kadayawan Village,” Romero said.

Among the infrastructure they will be putting up inKadayawan Village are tourist areas with comfort rooms and souvenir shops where the products of the 11 groups will be showcased.

“So that tourists coming to our Kadayawan village will feel comfortable and the areas will be modernized,” Romero said.

She said the project will include improving the surroundings of the replica houses so the tourists can “enjoy and appreciate more the culture highlighted in the village.”

Romero said they (the proponents) will sit down again to conduct a detailed costing as to how much the P20 million will go into implementing their winning project.

“Hoping the P20 million will be adequate for the project, but definitely the priority will be the admin hall, the tourist area, and the comfort rooms,” Romero said. (RVC/RGA/PIA Davao)
