Job fair, distribution of livelihood aid to mark Labor Day in Davao

DAVAO CITY (PIA) – Three job fairs and distribution of livelihood assistance will mark the celebration of the 122nd Labor Day in the Davao region, featuring the national theme “Sa Bagong Pilipinas: Manggagawang Pilipino, Kabalikat at Kasama sa Pag-Asenso.”

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) regional office is set to hold the job fair on May 1 across the major cities of the Davao region – Davao, Digos, and Tagum.

As of April 21, more than a hundred employers offering 7,524 job vacancies have signified participation in the job fairs, which provide bigger opportunities for job seekers in the region to secure employment.

Most of the job vacancies include sales representatives, technical support, cashiers, and merchandisers.

Apart from the job fairs, DOLE  will also be distributing over P246 million in financial assistance through the Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) and Kabuhayan Program and Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program.

There will be 3,427 DILP recipients who will be granted support for livelihood ventures worth more than P47.4 million.

Atty. Randolf C. Pensoy, DOLE XI regional director, reveals that three job fairs and distribution of livelihood assistance will mark the celebration of the 122nd Labor Day in the Davao region.

The 20,022 TUPAD beneficiaries will be receiving compensation for their 10-day community work amounting to over P198.9 million.

“That’s why we are doing our very best, through collective effort, collaboration, and a shared commitment to progress, highlighting the importance of unity to achieve thriving and progressive advancements in labor and employment throughout the region,” DOLE XI regional director Randolf C. Pensoy said during his guesting in Kapehan sa Dabaw on Monday, April 22, at SM City Davao.

DOLE will also provide an opportunity for 155 DILP beneficiary enterprises to showcase their products during the Kadiwa ng Pangulo Fair across the region starting April 29 to May 2, 2024.

A labor education forum will be held on April 24, 2024 in Davao City that aims to empower the labor sector on the basic rights of workers.

Other activities will also highlight the Labor Day celebration, such as the Labor Basketball League of the Tripartite Industry and Peace Council (TIPC) in Davao de Oro from April 24 to April 30, 2024.

The Government Internship Program (GIP) will be organizing bloodletting and mangrove planting activities on April 23 and 27. (CLC/PIA Davao/SDRB/PIA Davao Intern/DOLE XI)
