Pagcor hands over P2-M to Iloilo for hosting casino

ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- The inclusion of Iloilo province on the Host Cities’ Share (HCS) program of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) paved the way to receiving a monthly share of P1 million meant to support local government units that host a Casino Filipino branch.

Casino Filipino Bacolod Branch Manager Victor de Leon recently turned over a check worth P2 million to Gov. Arthur Defensor. Jr. covering the months of January and February 2024.

PAGCOR Board of Directors adopted a resolution on December 13, 2023, and approved by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. which rationalizes the distribution of HCS and extends the scope of the HCS program from 14 LGUs to 43 recipients, including the province of Iloilo. The rationalization encompasses beyond the Casino Filipino main branches.

PAGCOR Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer Alejandro Tengco said that the monthly allocation is remitted directly to the Provincial Treasurer.

“This allocation signifies our gratitude for the enduring partnership between PAGCOR and your province. We firmly believe that it will serve as a crucial resource for enhancing various community development initiatives and projects, with the primary goal of improving the quality of life of your constituents,” Tengco added.

Senior branch legal officer Teddy Velasco said the rationalization of the HCS program is an initiative of Tengco.

Defensor, for his part, expressed his gratitude to PACGOR for Iloilo’s inclusion in the HCS program.

The fund will be utilized based on the guidelines on the handling and disposition of host city’s share.  Qualified projects include self-sustainable livelihood projects, scholarships, infrastructure projects, sports programs, peace and order initiatives, and social projects, among others.
