DOST, Radyo Pilipinas join forces to bring science closer to the people

QUEZON CITY (PIA) -- To revolutionize the dissemination of scientific knowledge and solutions, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has forged a groundbreaking collaboration with Presidential Broadcasting Service (PBS) Radyo Pilipinas, launching a new radio program aimed at connecting the public with the wonders of science.

Titled "Radyo Siyensya: Sa DOST, konektado ka!", the program promises to be a bridge  for listeners across the nation. This initiative is a significant milestone in the DOST's mission to make science accessible for all.

The brain behind this innovative endeavor is none other than Dr. Renato U. Solidum Jr., Secretary of the DOST, who will serve as the program's host alongside Onin Miranda. With their expertise and passion for science, they aim to demystify complex concepts and showcase the practical applications of scientific research and innovation.

Ang ating programa ay maaaring makatulong sa pagpapalaganap ng kamalayan sa agham, teknolohiya at inobasyon,” said Miranda, who will be bringing timely updates on DOST’s programs and services, from research funding, startup grants, scholarships, business assistance, and more.

(This year, our radio program is back, it feels great. Personally, as a radio broadcaster, I miss it. Building a connection with listeners/viewers is one of the goals of our program… for more people to have knowledge and understanding about the various initiatives, programs and projects of DOST. Our program can help spread awareness of science, technology and innovation.)

One of the key features of "Radyo Siyensya" is its interactive format, allowing listeners to engage directly with DOST through phone patch and sit-down interview segments. This unique opportunity enables individuals to pose questions and seek clarification on various DOST projects, programs, products, and services.

Moreover, the program will tackle pressing socio-economic issues, providing insights on how science and technology can address challenges and drive progress. Secretary Solidum's commentary on regional development, job creation, and technological intervention will offer valuable perspectives on the role of science in shaping the future of the Philippines.

In line with its commitment to inclusivity, the radio program invites individuals, companies, and institutions to submit inquiries, which will be addressed by experts from DOST. This open forum fosters collaboration and fosters a sense of community, reflecting the program's overarching theme of unity in science.

Through the one-hour weekly radio program, the entire DOST system is ONE in its mission to bring the benefits of science, technology, and innovation for U, as mirrored in its tagline, #OneDOST4U. What is a new addition to the program is that individuals, companies, and institutions will have the chance to submit or send their inquiries, which will be addressed by the experts from DOST.

The program is scheduled to air every Saturday at 2 pm on RP 1. (AVS/PIA-NCR)
