DPWH completes 2 slope protection structures in Pampanga

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga (PIA) -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed two slope protection structures in Pampanga.

These now ensure the safety of communities in the towns of Lubao and Floridablanca.

DPWH Regional Director Roseller Tolentino said a slope protection measuring 441.36 meters was completed along the section of the Gumain-Porac River in Lubao flowing from Barangays San Pablo 2nd and Sta. Rita.

“The P96.49-million structure was built using a combination of concrete walls, erosion controls, and wire meshes construction methods. It is seen to help in managing excess water from the Gumain-Porac River come rainy season,” he added.

Meanwhile, a 454.4-meter slope protection along a local creek in Barangay San Antonio, Floridablanca will now prevent farmland soil from eroding in times of heavy rain.

“By minimizing soil erosion, the P48.99-million structure in turn reduces the impact of soil degradation and maintains nearby ecosystems in the area,” Tolentino explained.

Both projects were funded under the 2023 General Appropriations Act. (MJSC/CLJD-PIA 3)
