DOLE to offer job opportunities, aid to La Union workers on Labor Day

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) -- As it seeks to recognize the contribution of workers in the province, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) La Union, with the Provincial Government of La Union, will open a jobs fair on May 1 at Camp Diego Silang, Carlatan in this city.

Dubbed as “Sa Bagong Pilipinas: Manggagawang Pilipino, Kabalikat at Kasama sa Pag-asenso," the event aims to offer assistance and to bridge  job seekers with available employment opportunities.

About 3,020 employment opportunities are set to be made available for applicants.

“We have 29 local employers who will be joining the jobs fair offering 1,985 job vacancies, three overseas employers with 1,035 job vacancies,” said Veronica Corsino, chief labor and employment officer of DOLE La Union.

Among the top industries participating include business process outsourcing, manufacturing, financial and insurance activities, manpower services, and sales and marketing.

The top vacancies are customer service representatives, production workers or operators, financial consultants, service crew, among others.

Job seekers are encouraged to prepare their application requirements such as their resume, certificate of employment for those formerly employed, diploma, and transcript of records.

According to Corsino, the event is open to all unemployed, skilled and unskilled workers, fresh graduates, graduates of training institutions, displaced workers, and employees seeking advancement to rise in the career ladder.

“To our applicants, they don’t have to look new. Just be presentable, bringing out their skills and abilities for the employers,” Corsino explained.

In addition, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), the La Union Provincial Public Employment Service Office (PESO), and the Social Security System (SSS) will offer their programs and provide frontline services to all registrants and applicants.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will also lead the ‘Kadiwa ng Pangulo’ to give workers access to fresh food products at lower prices.

Some 14 entrepreneurs within the province are invited to showcase their local produce, as they will sell basic goods and commodities at reasonable prices to consumers.

A payout of assistance will also be distributed to the beneficiaries of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program while learning sessions on employee and employers rights and responsibilities will be offered for workers in the informal sector.
