DPWH opens materials testing laboratory in Calapan City

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the Mimaropa region recently  inaugurated a new materials testing laboratory in Calapan City.

The state-of-the-art facility is designed to support the rigorous testing of construction materials, ensuring that all infrastructure projects adhere to the highest standards of quality and safety. 

DPWH Regional Director Gerald A. Pacanan, and Assistant Regional Director Gene Ryan A. Altea led the inaugural ceremony.

"We really mean it na kailangan pag gumawa tayo ng proyekto it should be sustainable, it should be resilient. That is why we see to it na ‘yung ginagawa nating proyekto are in the top-notch quality using these facilities." Pacanan said.

The laboratory is equipped with advanced testing technologies that will handle tests ranging from soil to reinforced steel, providing essential data that will inform safer construction practices. 

The laboratory aims to expedite project approvals and ensure compliance with national engineering standards by centralizing the materials testing process.

Also gracing the event were key local figures, including Oriental Mindoro 1st District Representative, Cong. Arnan C. Panaligan and Calapan City Mayor Marilou F. Morillo. (JJGS/PIA MIMAROPA)
