Heads up, drivers! EDSA-Kamuning Flyover Southbound Lane to close for 6-month repairs

MANILA, (PIA) -- Motorists and commuters in Metro Manila, brace yourselves for a slowdown! The southbound lane of the EDSA-Kamuning flyover will be partially closed starting Wednesday, May 1 for a much-needed six-month rehabilitation project.

The announcement came from Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Acting Chair Atty. Romando Artes. This repair effort, overseen by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), is crucial to strengthen the bridge and prepare it for potential earthquakes, including the theorized "Big One."

While the entire southbound lane won't be shut down, expect traffic congestion as re-decking works will take up one and a half lanes. The remaining lane will be exclusively for EDSA busway use.

To help motorists navigate the closure and avoid traffic jams, Artes suggests utilizing the Mabuhay Lanes as alternate routes. Additionally, the MMDA will be coordinating with various agencies like the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (HPG), Quezon City government, and barangay officials to clear alternate routes and ensure smooth traffic flow.

Here are some suggested alternate routes for affected drivers:

  • From EDSA/Quezon Avenue southbound:Turn right to Panay Avenue, then left to Sgt. Esguerra Avenue, then left to Timog Avenue, then right to EDSA Service Road.
  • Alternatively, turn right to Mo. Ignacia Avenue, then left to Sgt. Esguerra Avenue.
  • Another option is to turn right to Panay or Mo. Ignacia Avenue, then left to Sgt. Esguerra Avenue, then continue straight to 11th Jamboree before turning left to Kamuning Road.
  • From Kamuning Road: Take the EDSA Service Road.
  • From 11th Jamboree Avenue: Turn left to Kamuning Road.
  • Additional options from EDSA/Quezon Avenue southbound:Turn right to Eugenio Lopez Jr. Dr. or Scout Borromeo St., then left to Sgt. Esguerra Avenue.
  • Alternatively, turn right to Scout Borromeo St., then left to Timog Avenue.
  • You can also turn right to Eugenio Lopez Jr. Dr. or Scout Borromeo St., then left to Samar Avenue, then left to Timog Avenue. (PIA-NCR)
