Health Services Office reminds public to take precautions as temperature rises

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (PIA) -- The La Trinidad Municipal Health Services Office (LTMHSO) reminds the public to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the dangers of extreme heat.
 
On April 28, 2024 at 1:00 PM, the PAGASA BSU Agroment Station in La Trinidad recorded the maximum temperature at 31.5 degrees Celsius. The highest heat index in La Trinidad at 31 degrees Celsius was also recorded on the same day.

 
LTMHSO Medical Officer Dr. Arlyn Namoro emphasized the importance of  drinking water and staying  hydrated especially  in hot  weather.  Proper hydration is crucial for overall health and well-being, as it helps regulate body temperature and supports various bodily functions.

"Aginom tayo iti adu nga danum. Danum ti irec-recommend tayo, haan nga coffee, haan nga tea, haan nga soft drinks, or alcohol kasi dagitoy nga mainom, considered da nga diuretics. Kayat na a sawen, agpa-isbo da, karkaro tayo nga ma-dehydrate," Namoro reminded.
 
[Let's drink plenty of water. We recommend water, not coffee, not tea, not soft drinks or alcohol because these are considered diuretics. Meaning, it makes us urinate and we will be dehydrated.]
 
She also reminded to wear light colored clothes, and as much as possible, not to stay outdoors for too long.

"Jay bado nga isuot tayo, mas maymayat no dagijay naimpis or light colored. Iwasan tayo dagijay dark color ta ag-absorb iti heat."
 
[We should wear something that is thin or light colored. We should avoid dark colored because it absorbs heat.]
 
Namoro added that it is also important to wear a hat or use umbrella when outdoors, and to use sunscreen to protect the skin.
 
She also advised having outdoor activities early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid being exposed to the scorching sun.
 
When experiencing symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke, seek medical attention, she added.
