MANILA, (PIA) -- Malabon City hosted its first Cultural Show and Fellowship Night on April 28 to celebrate the talents and rich culture of Malabon, according to the City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office.

The event, titled "Tertulya at Pagtatanghal," (social gathering and performances) aimed to recognize the Malabon Cultural and Arts Groups and provide a platform for them to showcase their abilities.

Mayor Jeannie Sandoval, who was recently named 2023 Outstanding Public Servant and Top Performing Mayor, graced the event held at the Malabon Sports Complex.

"This first Fellowship and Cultural Show gathers us as part of our 23rd Cityhood Anniversary and 425th Tambobong Festival," Mayor Sandoval said.

"Through this activity, we not only showcase the skills and love for our city of our fellow Malabueños, but it also serves as a reminder that we Malabueños have inherent talents and skills, so we must cultivate the gifts bestowed upon us by the Lord."

The City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office, headed by Ms. Catherine Larracas, highlighted the event as a reflection of Malabon's cityhood, achieved through Republic Act 9019 authored by former Congressman and current Philippine Red Cross - Malabon City Chapter Chairman Ricky Sandoval.

Various groups participated in the event, including the internationally renowned Malabon Concert Singers, Longos Monternos Saltator, Malabon Community Dance Ensemble, Archangel Journey Chorale, Hiyas ng Sining Folk Dance Troupe, City of Malabon University (CMU) Chorale, Saliwidikan Dance Company, Tanghalang Bagong Sibol, CMU's Golden Blue, Rizal Performing Arts Guild, and Beast Dance Company.

The performances, filled with grace, creativity, and passion, highlighted Malabon's beliefs, traditions, industries, heritage, tourism, everyday life, and the city's efforts to improve the quality of living for every Malabueño.

Aligned with the city government's goal to uplift the lives of Malabon residents, the cultural show encouraged the community to embrace their Malabueño identity, promote the city's rich culture, and participate in various programs and projects designed for them.

As part of the city's 425th Founding Anniversary celebration, the local government has prepared other events, including a Sagalahan, Tambobong Indakan, and the Ginoo at Binibining Malabon 2024 Grand Coronation Night happening on May 21. (PIA-NCR)
