Chona (who asked not to be identified), 25, one of the employees whose employer did not remit their SSS contribution, is thankful that SSS visited their establishment.
“Nalipay ko na mibisita ang SSS kay para sab maapil ko sa lista sa ako amo kay plano baya unta ko mo loan para sa ako mama,” said Chona.
(I am happy that the SSS team visited us so that my employer will be reminded and include me in the list. Hopefully, I can apply for a loan for my mother.)
“The RACE is a continuous operation to apprise the employers as to how their records are going in terms of their remittances, and educate them on their responsibilities. We are gentle and prudent in our visits,” said Benedian.
Previous erring establishments that have been visited by SSS have already been compliant and acted within the 15-day period to settle the obligations.
However, Benedian urged both the employees and employers to visit their office if they need help or guidance on social security matters.
“What we are doing now is for the Filipino workers and for their employers. They are not our adversaries, but we are working with them all for the benefit of their workers because you, too, deserve to have social protection. Someday, you will be an SSS pensioner,” added Benedian.
SSS members are entitled to social security benefits such as sickness, maternity, disability, unemployment, retirement, funeral, and death benefits.
SSS members who pay at least 120 monthly contributions prior to the semester of retirement will get a lifetime monthly pension, while those with less than 120 monthly contributions will receive a one-time lump sum amount. (JCT/PIA7 Negros Oriental)
