DOH offers free cervical cancer screenings in Region 1 hospitals this May

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) – In recognition of Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, the Department of Health-Center for Health Development 1 (DOH-CHD-1) is offering free cervical cancer screenings at major hospitals across Region 1 throughout May.

Women are encouraged to participate in these screenings, which will be held:

·      May 10: Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center in San Fernando City, La Union

·      May 17: Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center in Batac City, Ilocos Norte

·      May 24: Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City, Pangasinan

Dr. Paula Paz Sydiongco, DOH-CHD-1 regional director, emphasizes the importance of early detection, highlighting that cervical cancer is highly treatable when caught in its early stages.

Worldwide, cervical cancer ranks as the fourth most common cancer among women, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

In the Philippines, it is the third most common cancer after breast and colorectal cancer.

Through these free screenings, DOH-CHD 1 aims to increase access to early detection services, combat the growing burden of cervical cancer in the region, and empower women to take charge of their health.

Women in Region 1 are urged to take advantage of this free screening opportunity and prioritize their cervical health.
