AgriKids Academy teaches kindergarten pupils in backyard gardening

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) - -Kindergarten pupils in Barangay Malasin in San Mateo, Isabela, have experienced various farm activities through the Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Training Institute’s (ATI) AgriKids Academy.

The AgriKids Academy, which officially opened during the ‘ARUBAYAN’ launching program on April 30, is ATI’s initiative in response to the declining number of youth interested in farming.

"Arubayan" is an Iloko word that means "backyard" in English.

Together with their guardians and teachers, the kindergarten pupils were engaged in vegetable harvesting, mushroom picking, and watering plants.

During the whole-day activity, the AgriKids were allowed to design and paint plastic pots made from recycled plastic bottles, to teach them the value of repurposing materials in agriculture.

A farm tour at the ATI Techno Demo Farm was also conducted, where AgriKids were introduced to various vegetables. (OTB/MDCT/PIA Cagayan)
