MANILA, (PIA) -- The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has unveiled plans for a Pilot Project aimed at recruiting 100 Filipino caregivers under the Employment Permit System (EPS) between the Philippines and the Republic of South Korea.
This initiative seeks to strengthen bilateral labor ties between the two countries while assessing the feasibility of a larger caregiver deployment plan in the future.
The Pilot Project will directly benefit Korean families in need of assistance with childcare, including infants, as well as those with pregnant women, single parents, or dual-income couples.
Qualified Filipino caregivers will provide support with various tasks such as childcare, daily chores like cleaning and laundry, and aid for pregnant women.
Additionally, this project will create new employment opportunities for skilled Filipino caregivers.
Prospective caregivers interested in participating must possess a Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) NC II Caregiving Certificate and fall within the age range of 24 to 38 years old.
Selected applicants will undergo thorough medical, psychological, language, and physical assessments. They will also receive comprehensive pre-departure and post-arrival training sessions. Orientation sessions will be conducted for prospective Korean families as well.
Registration for the Pilot Project will be open from May 9 to May 10, 2024.

It is worth noting that the Philippines holds the distinction of being the first country to establish a bilateral labor Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with South Korea under the Electronic Permit System, which was implemented in 2004.
The two nations recently celebrated 75 years of diplomatic relations, further underscoring the significance of this collaborative effort.
