La Union police lauded gov’t interns for their service

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) -- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-La Union Field Office honored seven interns from the La Union Police Provincial Office (LUPPO) under the Government Internship Program (GIP) for their invaluable contributions to the government service.

The awarding was part of the nationwide Labor Day Jobs Fair on May 1, 2024,  at Camp Diego Silang, Carlatan, in this city.

Francisco Paolo P. Ortega V, 1st District Representative of La Union, commended the resiliency and engagement of laborers during the said event.

"Today, we are still here, showing that we are working and we are a resilient member of the working force, the workforce of the government as well," Ortega  said.

The interns who received certificates of participation were assigned to different units at their office, where they were admitted from February 2024 to July 2024.

LTCOL Jake Isidro, officer-in-charge of the Police Community Affairs in LUPPO, ensures that the interns join various activities of the police, such as feeding programs, outreach programs, and clean-up drives, in addition to administrative tasks.

“The GIPs significantly assist us by filling in extra work like paper work, especially for those who are computer literate,” Isidro said.

Meanwhile, Celine Joy Duclayan, Labor and Employment Officer III and GIP focal person of DOLE-La Union Field Office, emphasized that the primary goal of working in the public sector is to serve the people.

“Let’s make our admission into the government service a motivation – that you are not only there to work for yourself but, of course, to serve the people,” Duclayan said.

Jasmin Joanna Mae Alcaraz, a GIP intern at LUPPO, expressed her gratitude for her experience in the workforce and the award they received at the Labor Day Job Fair from DOLE.

“We are grateful for the unexpected award and the experience gained, such as joining their outreach programs, which allow us to interact with others,” Alcaraz said.
