ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) VI organized and launched a long-term clean-up activity for the mining industry in the region during this year’s Earth Day celebration on April 22.

Dubbed as “PLASTIKalikasan” program, it aims to minimize the use of plastic waste in the mine sites and the host and neighboring communities.

MGB 6 OIC Regional Director Cecilia L. Ochavo-Saycon thanked barangay officials and permit holders for joining the coastal clean-up and PLASTIKalikasan launching held at the grounds of Breakthrough Restaurant in Arevalo district.

Thirty-five personnel from six Mineral Processing Permit holders within the province of Iloilo gave their support and joined onsite in the coastal clean-up.

According to MGB 6, some offsite participants are yet to submit their post-event report on their respective clean-up activities held in host communities in the permit areas in other provinces during the day.

Latest data showed a total of 20 bags of plastic waste weighing 133.7 kilograms were collected.
