PSA urges unregistered Siquijodnons to sign up for National ID

SIQUIJOR,Siquijor (PIA) -- The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) here is encouraging residents who have yet to register for their National ID to sign up for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys).

Rizalyn Teodora G. Postrado, statistical specialist II  of Philippine Statistics Authority, urged those who have to register to approach the PSA provincial office or the nearest Local Civil Registry Office to seek assistance with the registration process.

"We are encouraging all unregistered individuals to visit their nearest Local Civil Registry offices or the Philippine Statistics Authority Provincial Offices to be guided accordingly on how they can register,” said Postrado.

Making a difference

For Julie Ann M. Cabasag, 42, a housewife from Cang-agong, Siquijor, Siquijor, the National ID has been helpful in her availment of assistance from government programs such as the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program.

She said the National ID also serves as her means of identification when making financial transactions such as receiving money at remittance centers.

"Ang akong National ID, nagamit sa pagsubmit ug requirements sa 4Ps ug pagkuha ug kwarta sa mga remittance centers,” said Cabasag.

(I use my National ID when submitting requirements for the 4Ps, and for receiving money at remittance centers.)

Reliable means of identification

The Philippine Identification (PhillID) is the official national identification card issued under PhilSys.

It serves as a unified and reliable means of identification for all Filipino citizens and resident aliens in the Philippines.

PhillID contains essential biometric and demographic information of the cardholder, facilitating smoother transactions with government and private institutions, enhancing efficiency, and promoting inclusivity.

As of October 17, 2023, a total of 92,596 Siquijodnons have registered for the National ID.

Of the total, 11,917 are in Larena, 5,759 in Enrique Villanueva, 12,248 in Maria, 21,358 in Lazi, 14,242 in San Juan, and 26,538 in Siquijor.

Postrado explained that 18,150 of the 71,706 PhilIDs that were provided to registered users had been delivered successfully by April 2024. (CAG/PIA7 Siquijor)
