Friends rescued in ZamPen receive assistance from DOLE

ZAMBOANGA CITY (PIA) – A total of 328 friends rescued (FRs) have been granted an opportunity and received assistance through the livelihood programs of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-9.  

In celebration of 122nd Labor Day, DOLE-9, in collaboration with local government units from all over the region, the friends rescued were provided assistance and services which includes Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers" (TUPAD) and as beneficiaries of the skills training program, in partnership with Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). 

A total of Php5 million worth of programs and projects were allocated for friends rescued beneficiaries in the entire Zamboanga Peninsula region. 

Alias President Bacang, one of the beneficiaries expressed his gratitutude to the government for the livelihood assistance given to them, "we promise to sustain the project through our hardwork, we also promise to work on abolishing aliances that support rebellion in our area," he added. 

DOLE-9 Regional Director Albert Guib highlighted the collaboration with the national government, demonstrating steadfast support for individuals seeking to reintegrate into society by offering livelihood projects and emergency employment opportunities to address their concerns.

He also underlined the various employment programs and projects to welcome all those who want to live in a conventional society during an interview on PIA Kapihan na Zamboanga, as the government’s effort to attain sustainable peace.

The National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) continuously undertakes actions and extensive campaigns against ongoing communist rebellion in the country, together with affiliated government agencies and local government units to attain inclusive and sustainable peace.  

“We have so much services and programs to offer not only to the private and informal sector workers but to the general public as a whole,” Gutib said.

The successful Job Fair event in Zamboanga City on May 1 resulted in 132 individuals being hired on the spot, while an additional 241 candidates were considered for impending employment, showcasing a promising outlook for job seekers in the region.

Meanwhile, a total of 2,253 TUPAD beneficiaries also received their wages during the Malawakang TUPAD payout. 

Aside from the Job Fair and TUPAD payout, a One-Stop-Shop Services from different affiliated government agencies such as DTI, PRC, PSA, PhilHealth, and BIR offered their services, and also a Medical Mission was organized for the health and well-being of the workers.
