Fisheries field guide launched at Iloilo Mega Book Fair

ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) 6 launched a field management guide dubbed “SEAtizen’s Field Guide to Commercially Important Fishes in FMA 11” during the 7th Edition of the Iloilo Mega Book Fair (IMBF) in this city.

Compiled from the National Stock Assessment Program (NSAP) data spanning from year 2016 to 2018, this field guide spotlights the Top 20 fish species, providing taxonomic information, diagnostic characteristics, and in-depth information on their biology and fisheries.

The publication was a result of the collaborative effort of BFAR with various local government units in the provinces of Capiz, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental.

BFAR Regional Director Remia A. Aparri expressed in her presentation the Bureau’s continued commitment to educating the public about the importance of making conscious choices in buying and consuming responsibly caught seafood.

“We have been going to the fishing communities to work with our fisherfolk and we are happy for this opportunity to educate the consumers and the general public about our work and how they can contribute to protecting our seafood industry in the region,” said Aparri as she called for support from the public.
