Guimaras ‘EcoBazaar’ signals start of Manggahan season

ILOILO CITY (PIA6) – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Guimaras in collaboration with the Guimaras provincial government has launched the weeklong ‘Guimaras Island EcoBazaar’ on April 24, which signals the start of the highly-anticipated Manggahan Festival.

The said event, which will run until April 30 at Robinsons Place Iloilo, serves as a platform for product launching and promotion, market evaluation, and facilitates transactions and negotiations between producers and buyers, giving more opportunities and exposure for Guimaras producers and farmers, and their products.

DTI-Guimaras officer-in-charge (OIC) Juvy D. Benliro, in her message, stressed that the event also “paved the way for robust development growth by sustaining development and strengthening our MSMEs in Guimaras."

A total of 30 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) participated in the event which aims to generate up to P2.5 million sales, including booked orders and under negotiations.

These 30 MSMEs, according to Benliro, represent various DTI-assisted industry clusters in Guimaras, including processed fruits and nuts, cacao and coffee, wearables and homestyle, and agri-business sectors.

Among the products displaced on the fair include mango-processed products like

mango ketchup, and mango piaia, Bugnay fruit wine, painted eco bags and other homestyle decorations.

Meanwhile, Guimaras Economic Development Officer Francis Gentoral invited the public for the upcoming Manggahan Festival, noting that they would taste and experience more of Guimaras culture and gastronomy during the monthlong festivities, which is a “premier agri-festival celebration.”

He added that the event, which was spearheaded by the DTI-Guimaras for the past 12 years already, aims to make Guimarasnon products closer to the people as the Island EcoBazaar was already slated in various locations, such as in Boracay, Greenbelt, and Rockwell, Makati. (AAL/JNH/PIA Iloilo)
