32 drugs users in Davao de Oro freed thru plea bargaining

DAVAO DE ORO (PIA) -- After undergoing six months of treatment and rehabilitation at the Provincial Recovery Facility in Barangay Libasan, Nabunturan town, 32 persons who used drugs (PWUDs) in Davao de Oro gained freedom recently through plea bargaining.

In a ceremonial program, the plea bargainers received their Certificate of Completion from the six months rehabilitation.

Since their surrender or capture, the PWUDs undertook a community-based rehabilitation program of the province for plea bargaining dubbed as Davao de Oro Transformative Program Kontra Druga (DdOT-KD).

The program includes series of lectures geared towards an improved quality of life, psychosocial activities, family and individual counseling, legal aspects, health and spiritual awareness, and life skills training and livelihood programs.

During the ceremony, the graduates also got Certificate of Completion for Basic Pandesal and Pickles Making training under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Davao de Oro.

Alias Juan, one of the PWUDs in DdOT-KD Batch 3, expressed gratitude to the provincial government for helping him and his other mates change their lives for the better.

“Pasalamat mi nga adunay ingon ani nga programa ang probinsya diin nahatagan mi’g ikaduhang higayon nga tabangang bag-ohon ang among kinabuhi ug talikdan ang mga dili maayong binuhatan namo sauna,” said Alias Juan.

(We are thankful that the province has a program like this, in which we are given our second chance to help change our selves and abandon our then misdeeds.)

Aside from Juan and 31 others in Batch 3, a total of 87 PWUDs have graduated and availed of the program since 2022.

“Because you’ve given another chance sa inyong kinabuhi, ayaw usiki ang kahigayunan nga mabalik mo sa tagsa tagsa ka mga kamunidad para mabuhi nga mas malinawon, mas progresibo, ug mas hapsay kauban ang inyong pamilya,” the governor stressed.

(Because you’ve given another chance in your life, don’t throw away this opportunity to get back to your own respective communities to live peacefully, progressively, and orderly together with your family.)
