Region 1 drug ops seize P3.1M worth of illegal drugs

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union  (PIA) -- A series of anti-drug operations by law enforcement agencies in the provinces of La Union, Ilocos Sur, and Pangasinan led to the confiscation of P3.1 million worth of illegal drugs on May 7. 

The drugs seized comprise of dried marijuana worth approximately P2.5 million and suspected shabu worth more than P600,000. 

The anti-drug operation in Pangasinan province also led to the arrest of two individuals in Urdaneta City and Sison town, respectively. 

The two individuals were arrested for the peddling of suspected shabu worth more than P594,000. 

Three individuals were meanwhile arrested in the province of Ilocos Sur, specifically Vigan City and the towns of Sinait and Cervantes, where drugs and marijuana worth more than P150,000 were confiscated. 

In La Union, two individuals were arrested in Santol town were around P2.4 million worth of dried marijuana leaves were confiscated while one other individual avoided arrest and remains at large. 

The said operations were led by the Philippine National Police - Police Regional Office (PNP-PRO) 1 in partnership with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), which underwent due inventory and marking of evidence on the said areas. 

PNP PRO 1 Regional Director PBGen. Lou F. Evangelista said the drug operations serve as their way of advocating for the security and safety of citizens in Region 1 through its continuous war against illegal drugs. 

“PRO 1 remains steadfast in its mission to uphold the law and protect communities from the scourge of illegal drugs, bolstering efforts to create a safer and drug-free environment for  a secure and safe Ilocandia homeland for all,” Evangelista said. (JCR/MJTAB/CCMT, PIA La Union)
