'Science Beyond Borders' campaign to showcase STI solutions

MANILA, (PIA) -- Science and Technology Secretary Dr. Renato Solidum Jr. will lead and keynote the launching of the "Science Beyond Borders" campaign to promote science, technology, and innovation (STI)-driven solutions across various sectors, an event organized by the Department of Science and Technology-National Capital Region (DOST-NCR).

According to DOST-NCR Regional Director Engr. Romelen T. Tresvalles, the campaign will be officially unveiled at the event scheduled for May 29-June 1, 2024, at the Lucky Chinatown Mall in Binondo, Manila. The event will also feature a mix of activities designed to showcase the impact of STI advancements.

"[This is] in partnership with Megaworld Corporation," she said. Megaworld Corporation is a holding company that specializes in real estate development.

Tresvalles said the 2024 Science Food Festival, themed "Science Feeds Innovation: A Culinary Convergence," will be a key highlight.

This gastronomic festival aims to demonstrate how STI solutions are transforming the food and allied industries in Metro Manila.

Attendees can expect exhibits showcasing advancements in product quality and process enhancement.

Running concurrently with the Science Food Festival will be the Innovations for Filipinos Working Distantly from the Philippines (iFWD PH) Summit.

This summit carries the theme "STep Up, Kabayan! Science and Technopreneurship to Upgrade OFWs."

The event will provide a platform for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families to learn about the iFWD PH program and other government initiatives designed to support their sustainable reintegration into the Philippine workforce.

Attendees can also expect the launching of okara-based products, the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between partners for the iFWD PH program, and a tour of exhibits and bazaars. Okara is the soybean by-product that remains after filtering the water-soluble fraction during the production of soya beverage and tofu.

Tresvalles said the DOST-NCR believes the "Science Beyond Borders" campaign will raise awareness of the importance of STI in various aspects of Filipino life. (PIA-NCR)
