SSS Vigan intensifies crackdown on delinquent employers in RACE campaign

VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur (PIA) — The Social Security System (SSS)-Vigan City Branch reminded nine employers in Ilocos Sur to comply with their obligations to their employees in the Run After Contribution Evaders (RACE) campaign held Tuesday.

The team, led by branch head Cecille Tagle-Sally, visited nine non-compliant employers – both big and small – Including a salon, two coffee shops, a travel and tours company, a laundry shop, an eatery, an optical clinic, a bookkeeping firm, and a tire supply shop.

This campaign was done due to the non-registration of business with SSS, the non-production of records, and the non-remittance of SSS contributions.

The combined contribution delinquencies of the aforementioned employers are P262,753.61, inclusive of penalty and principal, affecting some 27 members or employees.

During the run, Sally urged employers to remit their contributions on time so that their employees can avail of their rightful benefits from SSS.

She also shared that, considering the significant improvements in the compliance of employers through the campaign, the SSS has started to conduct RACE every month since the beginning of the year.

“We are doing this monthly for at least six employers. As of now, we have 80 percent compliance from our employers, and if the remaining employers fail to comply within 15 days from the visitation, they will be referred for legal action,” said Sally.

The SSS will impose a two percent penalty per month on the amount due for the delayed months.

Further, Sally stated that the SSS offers a loan condonation program to qualified employers to aid them in complying with their obligations. (JCR/AMB/ATV, PIA Ilocos Sur)
