PBBM to LMP: Mandate should not be wasted on petty things

MANILA -- President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday urged the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) to treasure the trust and confidence given to them by their constituents who elected them in their respective positions, calling for a united local government chief executives to attain the “Bagong Pilipinas.”

In his speech during LMP’s 2024 General Assembly in Pasay City, President Marcos said the mandate of the local government units (LGUs) “should not be wasted on petty things” as “it should be used for grand things,” most particular in treating their constituents with respect.

The President said the national government will always listen to the local chief executives as they are the frontliners of government service and know the real score coming from their constituents.

He added that the national government also needs to hear the reports and suggestions of the local government, which will serve as the guide towards a better Philippine economy, better political system, and better landscape towards a “Bagong Pilipinas.”

President Marcos was the guest of honor and speaker during the 2024 General Assembly of the LMP, which was created by virtue of Republic Act No. 7160, or the Local Government Code of 1991. The LMP is a non-profit and non-government organization of all municipalities in the Philippines.

It is mandated to organize for the primary purpose of ventilating and articulating issues affecting municipal government administration and formulating solutions through proper and legal means. (PND)
