Tudela village leaders complete governance training

MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL - Some 17 village officials from the Municipality of Tudela have completed the Barangay Newly Elected Officials Towards Grassroots Renewal and Empowerment for Accountable and Transparent (BNEO GREAT) Basic Orientation Course, aimed at harnessing local leadership skills in participants.

Gov. Henry Oaminal emphasized that local elected leaders who have effectively managed the local government units with accountability would further gain the trust of the people. The first batch of barangay officers gathered together on March 5 to train in good local governance and public administration processes at the Aya Hotel and Residences in Clarin town.

“Kinahanglan nga ang inyong natun-an dinhi inyo gayud na ma-internalize, ug ma-put into action sa inyong tagsa-tagsa ka barangays. Kung ato ng mabuhat, makita usab sa atong mga katawhan, kaya nila suklian sad sa maong sinseridad, so dili na gayud madugay ma achieve nato ang atong tinguha nga ang mga Misamisnon Magpuyong Malinawon, Malambuon ug Malipayon,” he said.

[What you have learned here must be internalized and put into action in your respective barangays. If we can do it, our people will also see it, so they will reciprocate with that sincerity, so it won't be long before we can achieve our desire that the people of Misamis will live peacefully, prosperously, and happily.]

Oaminal reminded the participants to always act with transparency, be responsive to the needs of their constituents, and focus on good governance.

“Let’s continue to develop Tudela para sa pag-Asenso, and let’s work together for the full attainment of Asenso Misamis Occidental,” he told the training participants.

Among the course topics are the Basics of Republic Act 7160, otherwise known as the Local Government Code of 1991 for Barangays; the Barangay Development Plan and Capacity Development Agenda; and Participation in Governance through Barangay-Based Institutions and Volunteerism; Department of the Interior and Local Government programs, projects, and activities for the barangays; Public Ethics and Accountability; the Barangay Agenda for Governance and Development;  and lastly, the Asenso Misamis Occidental 5M’s Development Thrust.

Participants include punong barangays, Sangguniang Kabataan chairpersons, Sangguniang Barangay members, barangay treasurers, and barangay secretaries. (PGMO/PIA-10/Misamis Occidental)
