A total of 3,103 graduating college students from the Occidental Mindoro State College (OMSC) participated in the Labor Education for Graduating Students (LEGS) conducted by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Occidental Mindoro Provincial Office on March 5, 13, 14 and April 4 to 5, 2024.

LEGS seminar includes lectures on basic labor relations, general labor standards, appropriate minimum wages per region and sector, and useful tips on how to become more employable.

DOLE, in partnership with OMSC Guidance and Testing Center, successfully delivered its series of LEGS seminars across its main campus in San Jose and other campuses in Mamburao, Sablayan, and Lubang with courses from the college of teacher education, business administration and management, arts, sciences and technology, criminal justice education, engineering, architecture, and hospitality management. The final batch of LEGS is scheduled for the college of agriculture in Murtha campus on April 12, estimated to reach an additional 341 students.

Labor education aims to prepare the graduating students or the “would-be workers” in the world of work and somehow readies them for job hunting. At least these future workers will learn work ethics, their rights, duties, and obligations at work, as well as the culture of productive and decent work, and other dynamics in the workplace. Moreover, prospective employers will also benefit from this activity as hiring graduates with a strong foundation in labor might increase the workplace’s productivity and promote a culture of labor rights awareness.

LEGS, as a component of the DOLE Labor Education and Employment Services (LEES) Program, enlightens, educates, and provides students with knowledge on the rights and responsibilities of workers and employers, work ethics, values, and other labor-related information that will guide and help them become responsible partners to attain harmonious labor-management relations.
