PBBM calls for whole-of-gov’t approach to address power supply issues

MANILA -- President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is calling for a whole-of-government approach after the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said that the Luzon Power Grid will be placed on red and yellow alert status.

In a statement, President Marcos said that he has already instructed the Department of Energy (DOE) to closely monitor and coordinate with all stakeholders to address the power supply situation.

President Marcos added that he has also directed all government agencies to set the standard in conversing energy and minimizing power consumption as he called on the public to help government conserve energy.

“At this time, it is crucial that we all work together to ensure a stable power supply for the next couple of days. Let’s adopt energy-efficient practices and stand together to overcome this challenge,” President Marcos said.

The NGCP said that a yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement while a red alert status is issued when power supply is insufficient to meet consumer demand and the transmission grid’s regulating requirement.

The yellow alert will be from 1pm to 2pm; 4pm to 6pm; and 9pm to 11pm while red alert status will be from 2pm to 4pm; and 6pm to 9pm. (PND)
