BICUTAN, TAGUIG CITY -- The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL) will conduct the first monthly #PilipiNAST Kapehan on April 26, 2024 (Friday), from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, via Zoom and Facebook live with a theme: “Conversations with Scientists: Life and Science Behind the Greens”. Two environmental scientists were invited to serve as guests in this activity.

Dr. Maria Obiminda L. Cambaliza, Civil Engineering, is the 2022 NAST Environmental Science Awardee. She is also an Associate Professor and current Chair of the Department of Physics of the School of Science and Engineering, Ateneo de Manila University. Her current research is focused on the science of aerosols and trace gases and their relation to urban air quality, as well as the interaction between air pollution and meteorology.

On the other hand, Dr. Emilyn Q. Espiritu, Ph.D. Applied Biological Sciences, is the 2020 NAST Environmental Science Awardee. She is currently serving as the Executive Director of the Ateneo Research Institute of Science and Engineering (ARISE) and Professor at the Environmental Science Department of the School of Science and Engineering of the Ateneo de Manila University. Dr. Espiritu is recognized for her scientific contributions in the awareness of different environmental pollutants such as micro plastics that affect some of our most important food sources as well as the health of our people who inhabit the affected areas.

#PilipiNAST Kapehan is a series of online dialogue between NAST PHL and the press, media, and science communicators to introduce the programs, activities, awardees, and members of the Academy as well as timely issues faced by the country.

The event will be moderated by Dr. Jillian Aira Gabo-Ratio, Outstanding Young Scientist 2023.
