MANILA -- On Labor Day, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to champion the rights of Filipino workers under a “Bagong Pilipinas” where laborers’ development and prosperity are secured.
In his speech during the 122nd Labor Day celebration at the Malacañan Palace on Wednesday, President Marcos honored the golden anniversary of the Labor Code of the Philippines (LCP), which was promulgated during the leadership of his father, former President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr.
The LCP, or Presidential Decree No. 442, was issued on May 1, 1974.
The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) also launched commemorative stamps for the 50th anniversary of the signing of the LCP.
President Marcos said the LCP was borne out of the vision for the development, employment and social justice. He described the LCP as one of the most enduring pieces of social legislation in the Philippines.
“Leading the celebration of its golden anniversary, the 122nd Labor Day, I proudly reaffirm the government’s commitment to champion the rights of Filipino workers, in pursuit of development and prosperity,” President Marcos said.
“Today, we stand in awe of the remarkable contributions of Filipino workers here in the country and also abroad. I offer them our gratitude and recognition as beacons of hope, as important pillars of our country’s foundation,” he added.
President Marcos also recognized the dedication of the Filipino workers and their pursuit of a better life for their loved ones that “fuel the engine of progress” in the Philippines as he highlighted the significance of the “Philippine Development Plan.”
The President said the government continues to find ways to improve the lives of the Filipino laborers.
“My fellow workers, we aim not just for job growth, but for quality and green jobs that are aligned with our vision for a sustainable, human capital-centered economy,” President Marcos asserted.
Before concluding his speech, President Marcos expressed his gratitude to Filipino workers for their passion, integrity and professionalism as he acknowledged their perseverance and dedication to provide for themselves and their families, especially in these challenging times. (PND)
