Calamba youth lead effort for cleaner, sustainable community via BarKaDa clean-up

MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL (PIA) -- The youth of Barangay Calaran spearheaded the Barangay at Kalinisan Day (BarKaDa) Clean-up Drive in their community, based on the tradition of "Bayanihan."

All Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials of the Municipality of Calamba, together with the Philippine Army and the Philippine National Police (PNP), volunteered their time and effort to restore the cleanliness of the area by collecting litter and garbage.

Faith R. Constantino of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) stressed the active participation of the youth in community development and environmental conservation endeavors.

Further, Municipal Mayor Luisito B. Villanueva, Jr., underscored the role of the youth in ensuring safe and healthy communities, saying, "Our youth are the future stewards of our community. By actively participating in initiatives like today's clean-up program, you are not just cleaning our barangay but also learning the importance of environmental responsibility and community service.”

Local Government Operations Officer Shaniah R. Mangadang, who is in charge of the Kalinisan Program in her province, talked about the most important parts of DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2024-059, which is the Program Framework for the KALINISAN (Kalinga at Inisyatiba para sa Malinis na Bayan) sa Bagong Pilipinas Program.

DILG Calamba led this event, showcasing the remarkable dedication and enthusiasm of the youth and the department's ongoing commitment to foster a cleaner and more sustainable community. (DILG Misamis Occidental/PIA-10/Misamis Occidental)
