Hundreds of Students get Php 2k in Financial Aid

NABUNTURAN, Davao de Oro -- More than 800 students from the 11 municipalities of Davao de Oro got Php 2,000 each in financial assistance at the Mega Tent, Provincial Capitol Grounds on May 8, 2024.

This was funded by DSWD through the efforts of 2nd District Congressman Ruwel Peter Gonzaga in partnership with Governor Dorothy "Dotdot" M. Gonzaga of the provincial government.

In his message, Congressman Gonzaga encouraged scholars to help the government disseminate the right information about the scholarship program, eliminating the fake news that spread on social media.

He added that the assistance symbolized another governmental effort and a means to continue their education, stating, "Pagpadayag kini sa pagpangga sa Gobyerno sa iyang katawhan."

Chairperson BM Ruwina Gonzaga of the Committee on Education emphasized that education has the potential to transform the lives and status of their families. She added, "Ang edukasyon, mao gyud ang muputol sa estorya sa kalisud sa kinabuhi, inspirasyon mo sa ubang kabataan nga naningkamot mueskwela".

Out of the over 800 student-beneficiaries, 788 of them were recipients of the Davao de Oro Scholarship Program (DDOSP) S.Y. 2023-2024 under the administration of Governor Gonzaga.

She highlighted that the intended purpose of the assistance was to provide a financial subsidy for end-of-school-year requirements, graduation expenses, and other needs of the students.

"Mga kabatan-onan, daghang salamat gyud kay inyung gipadayun ang inyung mga ambisyon unya naningkamot nga ma-scholar sa probinsya. Mga bata, naa kanunay ang gobyerno, andam nga mualalay sa inyung pagpaningkamot," Governor Gonzaga said.

For S.Y. 2024-2025, another 788 students will be selected as recipients of the DDOSP and the selection process is ongoing. From the sectors of Non-Indigenous People, IP, and Out-of-School youth, the program extended to other sectors such as Person-with-Disability (PWD), Children of Solo Parents, Friend Rescued (FR), Youth from Geographically Isolated and Disadvantage Areas (GIDA) and Alternative Learning System (ALS).

This signifies the full commitment of Governor Gonzaga to ensure that all students of any background receive the assistance needed, allowing them to fulfill their dreams and become the amplifiers of change, progress, and development in the future.

"Kanunay gyud mi nga nangandoy nga makahuman gyud mo, kay kamo gyud ang musunod sa pagpalambo sa atong kinatibuk-ang probinsya sa Davao de Oro," Governor Gonzaga said.

Also, present at the event were personnel from DSWD, PSWDO, PAO, PGO, and others while the participants got the provision of food for lunch from the office of Congressman Gonzaga. (DdO PIO)
