BIR urges taxpayers to pay correct taxes, embrace digital tools

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) -- The Revenue District Office 98 (RDO 98) urged taxpayers to actively support the government's objectives by ensuring the accuracy of their tax payments and embracing the Bureau of Internal Revenue's (BIR) digital tools.

The call to action was made by Revenue District Officer Monib Dimalomping during the launch of the 2024 tax campaign in Cagayan de Oro City on Feb. 26.

He emphasized the vital responsibility of taxpayers and withholding agents to remit the correct amount of taxes, underscoring that this financial contribution is pivotal for the government to possess adequate funds and effectively fulfill its functions.

Dimalomping further echoed President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s perspective stressing that taxes are more than financial obligations but investments in the government, the economy, and the future of the nation and its succeeding generations.

With a daunting target of collecting P10.67 billion for the current year, marking a 27.22% increase from the previous year's actual collections, RDO 98 is strategically focusing on enforcing tax laws, intensifying enforcement activities, and digitizing processes. This proactive approach aligns with the government's need for higher tax revenues to support escalated expenditures on crucial public services, infrastructure, and societal development, ultimately contributing to a more robust and equitable state.

Dimalomping also encouraged taxpayers and tax practitioners to leverage the e-Services provided by the BIR. His belief is grounded in the notion that cooperation and collaboration of all stakeholders, including taxpayers, BIR personnel, and tax practitioners, in embracing new tools and technology will enable the BIR to serve its stakeholders with excellence in line with international tax standards.
