PIA's grassroots consultation offers ‘stateside’ service

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) -- A United States Peace Corps volunteer offered an “imported bit” of service for the barangay officials of Pontevedra town during the recently concluded Philippine Information Agency – initiated barangay consultation dubbed “Hinunanon sa Barangay” at the town hall lobby.

Jeff Finnigan Schwartz, who introduced himself as Finn, is one of the six US Peace Corps volunteers currently in the province for two-year volunteer work in the education and coastal resource management sectors.

“We also conduct biodiversity as well as habitat assessments and monitor solid waste management programs,” said Finn, who joined and represented the Capiz Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (CaPENRO) in the interaction with barangay officials and some town officials.

Schwartz is a Coastal Resource Management (CRM) volunteer expert while his other colleagues work in partnership with the Department of Education for education–related volunteer services particularly in Pilar, Panay, Ivisan, Sigma, and President Roxas towns.

He also offered the participants to avail themselves of the free seedlings offered by the CaPENRO in a "Community Pan-Tree" at the town plaza of Pontevedra in time with the Hinunanon activity.
