Open water swim event to pistol-start in Isabela’s Sakayan Festival


ISABELA CITY, Basilan(PIA) – The local government of the City of Isabela de Basilan is now in full swing as it prepares for the HAPIsabela Open Water Swim event, dubbed 'Goyak' (Sama and Yakan word that means wave) as part of this year’s Sakayan Festival.

This activity, organized by the City Tourism Office, is set to take place on April 27 and 28. The local government unit, under the leadership of Mayor Sitti Djalia A. Turabin-Hataman, collaborated with the Department of Tourism-Zamboanga Peninsula to ensure the success of this event.

The HAPIsabela Open Water Swim Isabela de Basilan Leg aims to promote the sport of open water swimming, foster economic growth, and encourage community engagement. Moreover, it sought to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the City of Isabela de Basilan and highlight the commitment to promoting tourism in the region with the support of the local government, the Department of Tourism (DOT), the Zampen Open Water Swim Circuit, and the people of Isabela de Basilan.

Swim assessments and a series of meetings were held to discuss the necessary arrangements and actions for the activity. These discussions focused on proactive planning to ensure the smooth execution of the event and the safety of all participants.

Registration for the Open Water Swim event is ongoing, and interested individuals could find all the necessary information on the Facebook pages of Isabela City Tourism, ZamPen Open Water Circuit 2023, and Department of Tourism-Zamboanga Peninsula.

As the event drew nearer, excitement grew among the residents of Isabela de Basilan and the surrounding areas. The HAPIsabela Open Water Swim is not only an opportunity to celebrate the city's vibrant culture and rich history but also to bring people together and promote unity through sportsmanship.

With the support of the local government and the Department of Tourism, the people of Isabela de Basilan are eager to showcase their beautiful city and its potential as a premier destination for open-water swimming enthusiasts. The event would undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on the participants and contribute to the growth and development of the region.
