Former PNP spokesperson named chief of Zamboanga City police

ZAMBOANGA CITY (PIA) – Col. Kimberly Molitas, a former spokesperson of the Philippine National Police and a bemedalled police officer, has taken over as chief of the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO), marking the first time a female officer has assumed the role as the city’s top cop.

Molitas' appointment came as a testament to her exemplary track record and dedication to public service. With over two decades of experience in various capacities within the Philippine National Police (PNP), including serving abroad with the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti. 

She is also the first Filipino female police officer to have completed a Fulbright scholarship as a Hubert Humphrey Fellow at the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs. 

Molitas officially assumed her post on March 5, with the assumption of command ceremony held on March 11 at the ZCPO conference room. The event was presided over by Regional Police Director Brig. Gen. Bowenn Joey Masauding and witnessed by Mayor John Dalipe.

In her address, Molitas expressed her commitment to Mayor Dalipe and the City Government of Zamboanga, pledging to uphold peace in the city by continuing the plans and programs initiated by her predecessors.

“I intend that the city of Zamboanga will be equated to peace and known as a peaceful city that deserves to be visited, a peaceful place to live and invest,” she said.

In a resolute declaration of her commitment to safeguarding children's welfare, Molitas issued a stern warning to parents, responsible adults, and legal guardians. She emphasized the imperative of guiding and protecting children, urging adherence to child protection laws such as the city's curfew ordinance.

Moreover,  Molitas highlighted the potential consequences of neglecting this duty, warning that it could lead to an increase in criminal activities, including shooters and smugglers, in the future. By ensuring that parents and guardians fulfill their responsibilities towards children, the aim is to create a safer and more secure environment for the youth of Zamboanga City.
