Capiz State U bags Platinum Award for intellectual property initiatives

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) -- The Capiz State University received a Platinum Award from the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) during the Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO) Presidents’ Summit on March 18 at Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City.

The Platinum Award is the highest honor given by IPOPHL to the country’s best and most productive ITSO, determined by the number of Intellectual Property Foundation courses conducted, patent searches performed, inventions submitted, and commercialized IP-protected technologies or inventions.

CapSU President III, Editha C. Alfon, stated that the award serves as a testament that the university is serious about promoting scientific and technical innovations in various fields of discipline.

“It is also proof that our faculty members can translate their researches into viable technology and share them with the community for utilization, dedication to advancing intellectual property rights and technology commercialization in the Philippines," Alfon added.

She received the award with the Director of the Intellectual Property Management Office (IPMO) Mark Glenn F. Villamor, Chief of the Knowledge and Technology Transfer Division, French A. Dampog, and Executive Assistant Rosalie Salvilla.

The Platinum Award resulted from the following accomplishments: 12 IP Basics Trainings, seven Patent Search Trainings, three Patent Drafting Trainings, four Technology Commercialization and Technology Promotion Trainings, 50 Prior Art Search Reports (PAS), eight IP applications for patents, and commercialized two technologies with royalty payments received.

The CapSU Intellectual Property Management Office said that the prestigious award marks the university's continued exemplary performance as an ITSO.

“Setting a high standard for intellectual property development and fostering innovation within the institution,” the publication added.

The university also received various awards from the IPOPHL in 2022. It is also a Platinum Award for having drafted and filed seven invention patents and successfully commercialized its utility model entitled "Botanical Dewormer" through a licensing agreement with BDOZ Veterinary Products Training.

It has also garnered a Gold Award for drafting and filing seven invention patents in 2021, a Silver Award for providing 24 patent search services in the same year, and a Bronze Award for integrating and offering a three-unit Intellectual Property (IP) subject in its academic curriculum.

“As CapSU continues to lead in research, technology, and innovation, this recognition inspires the university community to strive for even greater heights in intellectual property management and innovation-driven development,” Alfon added.

In addition, the CapSU marks its 20th year as a university through Republic Act No. 9273 of then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo which converted Panay State Polytechnic College (PSPC) into a state university on March 21, 2004. (AGP/PLF/PIA Capiz)
