Davao City Durians overall DAVRAA 2024 champs

DAVAO CITY (PIA) --The Davao City Durians were crowned as the overall champion of the 2024 Davao Regional Athletic Association (DAVRAA).

The Durians hauled 385 medals consisting of 158 gold medals, 115 silvers, and 112 bronze medals.

Taking second place in the standing is Tagum Premiere (Tagum City). They were able to amass 62 gold medals, 55 silver medals, and 47 bronze medals. In third place is Davao del Norte (DavNor Pioneers), where they had 61 gold medals, 50 silvers and 70 bronze medals.

Panabo City Banana Magnates took fourth place as they had 89 medals consisting of 22 golds, 31 silvers, and 36 bronzes.  Coming in fifth is Digos Trekkers which had 87 medals (16 golds, 34 silvers, and 37 bronzes). Davao de Oro Golden Titans were in sixth place after having 95 medals of which 15 are gold, 30 silvers, and 50 bronze medals.

The annual regional sports event in Davao City held from April 1 to April 7 was considered a success with no untoward incidents that disrupted or affected the competitions.

“We have a very successful conduct of DAVRAA as expected because of the template of the security in Davao dili basta basta (not taken lightly),” said Department of Education Region XI spokesperson Jenelito Atillo.

Around 14,000 security personnel were deployed by Davao City to secure the games.

He said the strong and tight security in Davao allowed the orderly conduct of the various competitions which are spread

across different venues in Davao City with the swimming competitions held in Tagum City.

“Also, the conduct of the games were very very smooth, of course dula man ni naay mga reklams reklams na ginagmay pero maresolve man dayon sa atong mga game authorities. In a nutshell, generally speaking we have a very successful DAVRAA 2024,” Atillo said.

It’s a game where there would be minor complaints but it was quickly resolved by the game officials.)

He said health problems attributed to the high heat index alongside sports-related injuries were attended immediately by medical and game personnel.

Rounding up the medal tally in the 2024 DAVRAA, taking seventh spot is Mati City Eagles with 11 golds, 15 silvers and 16 bronze medals. In 8th place is Davao del Sur Cobras with 10 golds, 21 silvers and 36 bronze medals. Ninth place is the Island Garden City of Samal team dubbed Samal Waves which had eight gold medals, seven silvers and eight bronzes.

Placing 10th is Davao Occidental Tigers with seven gold, nine silvers, and 19 bronze medals, The 11th place Davao Oriental Sunrisers have five golds, nine silvers and 29 bronze medals. (RGA/PIA Davao)
