4 Capiz towns advance to comprehensive climate change action plans

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) -- The municipalities of Pilar, Pontevedra, Sigma, and President Roxas are advancing toward their respective Enhanced Local Climate Change Action Plan (eLCCAP) through a series of workshops and writeshops.

The provision of technical assistance is a collaborative effort of the Capiz Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Unit,  Department of Interior and Local Government, and Sentro Para sa Ikakaunlad ng Katutubong Agham at Teknolohiya, Inc., a non-government organization,  empowering communities and assisting local government units in sustainable coastal resource management.

It has facilitated significant progress in the eLCCAP formulation of the four municipalities as a proactive measure to enhance the climate and disaster resilience of their communities.

The eLCCAP offers a structured approach to address climate-related challenges tailored to each community's needs and empowers the local government units to fortify resilience against climate hazards, conserve ecosystems, and propel sustainable development thru thorough risk assessments and community engagements.

"The ongoing efforts of the provincial government signify a commitment to extending this support to all municipal LGUs, particularly those most in need. By scaling up workshops and write-shops, to ensure that every community has the necessary tools and guidance to develop

effective eLCCAPs. This inclusive approach reflects the province's dedication to fostering resilience and sustainability in its entirety," said CaPENRO head EnP Ronald Allan Cullo.

He added that embracing the eLCCAP is not just a legal obligation but a vital step towards securing the well-being of communities in the face of climate change and exemplifies proactive governance in building climate resilience and sustainable development.

The municipalities of Maayon and Panitan were the first among the LGUs in the province to complete their comprehensive climate change action plan.

The CaPENRO targets the remaining municipalities to complete their eLCCAP by the end of this year. (AGP/AAL/PIA Capiz with reports from CaPENRO)
