DOLE7 holds jobs fairs, turnover of cash aid on Labor Day

CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) -- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 7 has partnered  with the Cebu City Government through the Department of Manpower Development and Placement (DMDP) for the Labor Day Celebration local and overseas jobs fair on May 1.

The 122nd Labor Day celebration had a kick-off celebration with a Kadiwa ng Pangulo and a night market activity at the Mactan Processing Zone 1 on April 24.

This was participated in by 20 farmers in partnership with the Department of Agriculture and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Anchored on the theme “Sa Bagong Pilipinas: Manggagawang Pilipino, Kabalikat at Kasama sa Pag-Asenso," the jobs fair in Cebu City will be held at the City Wing of SM Seaside City Cebu.

A jobs fair was earlier held in Mandaue City on April 27 with 38 participating local employers and two overseas employers. 

DOLE7 regional director Lilia A. Estillore disclosed in a recent Kapihan sa PIA program that for Region 7, there will a jobs fair at the Lamberto Macias Sports Complex in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental on May 1.

“This is in line with our 122nd Labor Day Celebration Here in Cebu, it will be held in SM Seaside City at the City Wing wherein there will be 19 local participating employers with 3,551 job vacancies. Most of the vacancies are ESL teachers, healthcare associates, sales associates, and customer service advisors,” said Estillore.

There will also be a caravan of government services to be participated in by the National Bureau of Investigation, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, Philippine Statistics Authority, Social Security System, PAG-IBIG, Technical Skills and Development Authority, and DTI.

“We will also have a one-stop-shop for those who will be needing clearances and other requirements during the job fair,” Estillore added.

The job fairs will run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Estillore said that part of their commemorative program is the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Ecozone Tripartite Workers Committee.

Part of this MOA is the posting of job vacancies under PEZA on the philjob.net.

“Aside from that we will also be announcing the Kasambahay wage increase from 5,500 to 6,000 in the first class cities and municipalities after the MOA signing,” Estillore said.

DOLE7 will also distribute the P268 million financial assistance under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program in Central Visayas on May 1 and a week after.

There are currently 56,000 TUPAD beneficiaries in Central Visayas.

DOLE7 will also be extending financial aid to 50 TUPAD workers under the LAWA project, which is in partnership with DA.

LAWA project, or Local Adaptation to Water Access, aims to strengthen the capabilities of the poor and vulnerable families during severe drought under the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s Risk Resiliency Program. (MYP/PIA7 Cebu)
