Substantial benefits, services for workers available on Labor Day

TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte (PIA) – Jobseekers will find a wide array of job opportunities as well as avail of low-priced local products on the May 1 Labor Day celebration during which the usual Jobs Fair will be tied up with the Kadiwa ng Pangulo.

As guests of the One Davao Presser, Senior Labor and Employment Officer Jennylyn Rosalinda of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Davao del Norte field office, said the job-seekers have a total of 2,120 job opportunities to explore for employment in the Jobs Fair set at the Gaisano Mall of Tagum on May 1.

To be staged at the Robinsons Place Tagum, the Labor Day Kadiwa ng Pangulo in Davao del Norte has generated 31 exhibitors to sell local products at even lower prices than those prevailing in the market, Rosalinda said.

As of April 29, a total of 35 local employers have signified to join the Labor Day Jobs Fair in Davao del Norte and most of the types of employees they are seeking to hire are customer service representatives, drivers, sales representatives, tellers, and bus conductors.

Some employers are also seeking to hire associate sales specialists, marketing professionals, cashiers, operations management trainees, and sales checkers.

As DOLE has set high standards of qualifications for overseas employers, only three companies can join, offering 251 job placements as aircraft electricians, kitchen workers, international truck drivers, hotel housekeepers, and fabricators.

On the other hand, DOLE also organizes a one-stop-shop event for participating national government agencies (NGAs) to deliver specific services during the Labor Day Jobs Fair.

Among the government agencies that have signified are the Social Security System (SSS), the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), the Philippine Statistical Authority (PSA), the Commission on Elections (COMELEC),  the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Information Communications Technology (DICT), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA),  Philippine Health Insurance Commission (PHIC),  Home  Development Mutual Fund (PAGIBIG), Professional Regulations Administration (PRC), Department of Migrant Workers, DOLE and Public Employment Services Offices (PESOs).

On top of the whole-day one-stop-shop services, DOLE Davao del Norte also sets to distribute about P2.4 million worth of livelihood assistance including the “NegoCarts” for ambulant vendors during the Labor Day Program set at the Gaisano Mall of Tagum.

Moreover, while the Kadiwa ng Pangulo goes on the entire day on May 1 at the Robinsons Place of Tagum, DOLE Davao del Norte will also be releasing in the same venue, about P10 million worth of TUPAD assistance to 2,129 listed beneficiaries who were victims of the recent calamities affecting Davao del Norte.

DOLE Davao del Norte will also be handing over certificates of stipend entitlements to the Government Internship Program (GIP) grantees who are unemployed new graduates that DOLE has hired and placed in some LGU offices and offices of NGAs.

Aside from Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur and Davao City are also among the identified major sites of the Labor Day Jobs Fair and Kadiwa ng Pangulo in Davao Region. (RVC/RGA/JMDA/PIA-DavNor)
