Lanao del Norte town unveils Tourism Plaza Freedom Park

BAROY, Lanao del Norte (PIA) -- Residents of Baroy town can now enjoy a more refreshed and scenic town center after the newly rehabilitated Tourism Plaza Freedom Park was inaugurated on April 25.

The P10 million project was funded with the assistance of Senator Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go, as part of his support for infrastructure and community development projects in Baroy.

The Baroy local government also plans to further enhance the park's identity by incorporating large, decorative pottery pieces made by residents. This addition highlights Baroy's reputation as a renowned "Clay Town," known for its abundant, high-quality clay deposits.

Mayor Grelina Mantohac-Lim emphasized the project's aim to showcase Baroy's history and local products.

Hopefully, in the long run, amo jud makab-ot among pangandoy sa Baroy,” she said.

(There will be pots to highlight that this is Baroy. These are large. There will be four surrounding the fountain. I insisted on it because I wanted to highlight Baroy's history. Aside from that, Baroy's products will be showcased there soon. Hopefully, in the long run, we can achieve our dream for Baroy.)

Residents expressed their satisfaction with the improved park. "Nagpasalamat mi nga na-improve na ang plaza. Lahi na jud kaayo karon kay sauna dili ni in-ani. Karon nindot na jud sya. Lipay kaayo mi, hamugaway na among plaza," said Jonaphe Rodriguez.

(We are thankful for the improvements. The plaza looks different now. It's beautiful.  We are very happy that our plaza  looks very cozy.)

The improved park is expected to become a central hub for various activities in the town, including cultural festivals and leisure activities for both residents and visitors.

Meanwhile, Senator Go's support for Lanao del Norte extends beyond infrastructure. He is a strong advocate for improved healthcare access through the Malasakit Centers program. This one-stop shop, located within hospitals, integrates services from four government agencies: PhilHealth, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), the Department of Health (DOH), and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). The Malasakit Center in the province is located in the municipality of Kapatagan. (LELA, PIA Region 10 -Lanao del Norte))
