DOLE jobs fair in Tagum tops in number of hired on-the-spot

TAGUM  CITY, Davao del Norte (PIA) -- The Tagum City site of  the 2024 Labor Day Jobs Fair generated the highest number of hired-on-the-spot based on the final update posted online by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) XI.

Held at the Gaisano Mall of Tagum, the Tagum City Labor Day Jobs Fair on May 1 closed a total of 78 hired-on-the-spot applicants among the 605 total registered number of applicants who flocked to the Tagum City Labor Day Jobs Fair.

DOLE XI data showed that the Davao City Labor Day Jobs Fair clinched 61 hired-on-spot  out of  the 1,086 applicants, while the Digos City-based generated 37 hired-on-the-spot out of 510 applicants.

The Tagum City-based Labor Day Jobs Fair also registered 200 near-hired applicants, coming close next to Davao City with 204, while Digos City had150. 

DOLE Davao del Norte Provincial Head Erlinda G. Mamitag conveyed gratitude for the 35  local and the three overseas employers for participating in the Jobs Fair and for their willingness to tap home-grown job-seekers. 

“Because of the willingness of the employers to hire applicants, this paves the way  for more applicants hired on-the-spot, and  I also believe that the jobseekers were also prepared during the interview. It  contributed a lot to why we had a higher rate of  hired-on-the spot during the  jobs fair,” she told PIA Davao del Norte in an interview, May 03.

DOLE Davao del Norte registry recorded a total of 1,869 local job vacancies and 251 overseas job placement opportunities. 

Education  graduate Romer Villegas, a resident of Mawab, Davao de Oro overcame his hopelessness, and got hired on-the-spot as a management trainee.

“Nagpa interview ko sa other companies but then wala  . Maayo na lang naa koy extra resume’. Maayo nang andam ka perme. Sa last nako gi-aplayan,  luckily na hire on-the-spot man pud,” he said.

(I was interviewed by other companies but yielded nothing. Good that I had an extra resume. Its’ good to always be prepared. With the last I applied, luckily I got hired on-the-spot.)

He shared appreciation of the government for initiating the Jobs Fair as this brings together the companies in need of workers, and job-seekers in need of  employment.

“Ang Jobs fair nakatabang jud siya nga makakita ko ug oportunidad. Nice  nga platform nga progam sa government ug sa mga  company nga i-conduct siya, tungod daghan pud nangita ug trabaho,” he added.

(The Jobs Fair really helps me find the opportunity. This is a nice platform, program of the government and the companies to conduct, because there are a number of workers who have been looking for a job.)

“Makatipid sa pamasahe,” he added.  (I was able to save my fare.)

Other than operations management trainees, the Labor Day Jobs Fair based in Tagum City opened opportunities for those seeking to get employed as customer service representatives,  drivers,  sales representatives, tellers, bus  conductors, associate sales specialists, marketing professionals, cashiers and checkers.

Meanwhile, DOLE Davao del Norte Senior Labor and Employment Officer Jennylyn M. Rosalinda  advised those hired on-the-spot  and those near-hired to substantially contribute to the achievement of the company’s goal to become productive. 

“Be a good worker; be a productive worker, that the company would become productive because of you. You will be useful to the company which hires you,” she said in a media interview on May 1. (RVC/RGA/JMDA/PIA Davao del Norte)
