MARAWI CITY (PIA) -- The 103rd Infantry “Haribon” Brigade of the Philippine Army continues to stand tall, heralding significant triumphs in its pursuit of peace and security across Lanao del Sur.
The brigade's maneuver units navigated through eight victorious encounters with the Dawlah Islamiya-Maute Group, resulting in a significant reduction of enemy forces from 66 to 20, accompanied by a substantial decrease in firearms from 67 to 26.
Furthermore, the brigade's strategic assault on the CPP-NPA's Sub-Regional Committee (SRC)-5, North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCRMC), bore fruit with 15 meticulously planned engagements, leading to the neutralization of seven CPP-NPA terrorists and the seizure of four firearms. This operational success also recorded 63 surrenderers and the capture of two individuals, marking a substantial dent in the insurgency network, including the dismantling of Platun BMW.
Beyond combat, the 103rd Infantry Brigade actively engages in civil-military activities to foster peace and stability. Through initiatives such as the modified Community Support Program - Preventing and Countering Radicalization and Violent Extremism (CSP-PCRVE), youth symposia, and support for local peace mechanisms, the brigade contributes to building lasting peace in the region.
To realize the commitments made under the 1996 Final Peace Agreement between the Government of the Philippines (GPH) and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), the 103rd Infantry Brigade assisted the Office of the Presidential Adviser for Peace Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) on the verification and socio-economic profiling process under the MNLF Transformation Program. The brigade also supports the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP), the construction of a halfway house, the organization of a livelihood cooperative for former rebels and violent extremists, and the Marawi reconstruction, rehabilitation, and recovery efforts.
At the core of these efforts lies the commitment of the brigade to the welfare of its personnel, fostering a nurturing work environment. It is evident in facility upgrades, equipment improvements, and the advancement of six officers and 30 enlisted personnel.
In recognition of the value of continuous learning, the brigade sent 11 personnel to career and specialization courses, held 15 in-service trainings, and organized 15 in-house training sessions.
Brig. Gen. Yegor Rey P. Barroquillo Jr., 103rd Infantry “Haribon” Brigade commander, reaffirmed its indomitable will and long-standing commitment to the Filipino people.
"With the motto 'Fearless, Steadfast, and Humble, the brigade remains dedicated to contributing to peace, security, and development efforts in Lanao del Sur," he emphasized. (103rd Infantry Brigade/PIA Lanao del Sur)
