Misamis Occidental gears up for NMRAA in Camiguin

MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL (PIA) -- The Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental continues its unwavering dedication to sports by convening a crucial meeting with DepEd-MisOcc Schools Division Superintendent Reynaldo Manuel Jr. and his sports development team in anticipation of the Northern Mindanao Regional Athletics Association (NMRAA) meet scheduled for May 13.

A diverse array of sports, including basketball, taekwondo, softball, gymnastics, chess, sepak takraw, swimming, badminton, volleyball, arnis, archery, boxing, billiards, and para games, will see more than 400 athletes from the province compete.

Gov. Henry Oaminal, together with Superintendent Reynaldo Manuel Jr., has taken proactive steps by dispatching an advance party to Camiguin to scout the billeting quarters and other sports venues. This initiative allows the athletes to familiarize themselves with the facilities before the actual competition, ensuring they are well-prepared for the event.

DepEd MisOcc Education Program Supervisor Joseph Tapayan Boniao said that with the collaborative efforts of Oaminal and the superintendents, our assessment reveals that the readiness of our athletes stands at an impressive 80–90 percent.

“Governor Oaminal's support is evident in several aspects. Firstly, he has allocated a substantial budget through the school board, prioritizing the needs of our youth, particularly in terms of training and sports equipment procurement sourced in the province. Additionally, provisions for athletes' meals, training materials, and more have been ensured,’’ he shared.

The governor has also planned to provide complete uniforms, including shoes, jackets, t-shirts, shorts, caps, and backpacks, for all athletes, coaches, and officials. Oaminal's commitment to the well-being and support of our athletes throughout the competition is evident in the distribution of durable training and hygiene kits.

As part of the comprehensive plan, Oaminal will coordinate special boat trips for the delegation from Oroquieta to Camiguin, utilizing the Starlink and Fast Cat vessels, to facilitate smooth transportation.

Preparations are underway to allocate the necessary funds and resources to meet the athletes' requirements for the NMRAA, demonstrating Oaminal's dedication to elevating the province's standing in the regional and national sports arenas. (PGMO/PIA-10/Misamis Occidental)
