Gender advocates in Normin give essential kits to DSWD's home for girls

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) -- Gender Advocates Normin, Inc. (GANI) provided essential kits to the 65 residents of Home for Girls under the Department of Social and Welfare Development (DSWD)-10 on March 19, demonstrating support for the girls and reinforcing their well-being and dignity.

"We are here, composed of different agencies from the government to give you something, sa ginagmay lang pero among ihatag sa inyo to remind you that we care for you bisag naa mo diri, bisag naa mi didto sa gawas, amo gihapong gihigugma ug giapakita namo ang among gugma bisan sa gagmay lang nga pamaagi tungod niining atong pag-celebrate sa Women's Month," said GANI Vice President Fides Teresa Cabana.

[We are here this morning, composed of different agencies from the government, to give you something; these may be small in quantity, but we give them to you to remind you that we care for you even though you are here. Even though we are out there, we still love, and we show our love even in small ways because of our celebration of Women's Month.]

GANI President Maj. Daisy P. Baguio of the 4th Infantry Division (4ID) turned over the hygiene kits, medicines, and school supplies to DSWD Regional Director Ramel F. Jamen.

Representatives from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, the Commission on Human Rights, the National Telecommunications Commission, the Philippine Information Agency, and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources also graced the event.

Jamen presented the situation of young girls and their current status and development while staying inside the place. He said the girls in the facility are aged 8 to 18, and the majority of these girls are aged 15. "These kids were all survivors of gender-based violence who came from different parts of northern Mindanao," Jamen added.

By visiting various government institutions, GANI uses its platform to support women and girls, demonstrating its dedication to its mission as an association that serves the people of Northern Mindanao. (MGAB/PIA-10)
